Descripción de la asignatura:

La asignatura English I pertenece al campo de conocimiento de la enseñanza de lenguas extranjeras.

Esta asignatura, junto con English I, proporcionará al alumno una mayor visión del mundo angloparlante, que redundará en su conocimiento de esta cultura y en su mayor capacitación para acceder a un puesto de trabajo donde la competencia lingüística en inglés sea un requerimiento.

Evaluación:

Por ello, la calificación de la asignatura se hará teniendo en cuenta los siguientes criterios:

Exámenes Final: 60%
Trabajos: 40%
Con el fin de poder optar a la nota global del curso, es imprescindible haber superado el examen final con una nota igual o superior a 5.

Consideraciones generales acerca de la evaluación:

En todos los ejercicios se tendrá muy en cuenta la correcta expresión escrita, y el uso adecuado de la gramática y la puntuación.

Las faltas en la Integridad Académica (ausencia de citación de fuentes, plagios de trabajos o uso indebido/prohibido de información durante los exámenes), así como firmar en la hoja de asistencia por un compañero que no está en clase, implicarán la pérdida de la evaluación continua, sin perjuicio de las acciones sancionadoras que estén establecidas por la Universidad. El plagio, en cualquiera de los aspectos evaluadores de la materia, será motivo de suspenso.

Task 1: Summarizing the story.

Read the following text and summarize the story of Robert Munsch “Paper Bag Princess”. Include only the most important details of the story, and try to make your summary less than 100 words but more than 50. Don´t forget to use the Past Simple Tense when retelling the story.

Task 2: Writing an informal letter

Think, plan and write!

You are going to write an informal letter to an English speaking pen friend. Thank your friend for an invitation to visit his or her family in the summer. Explain that you are unable to go, as you have already made other plans.

Before you write, decide what you want to say. List the informal expressions you could use to thank your pen friend for the invitation and to apologize for having to turn it down.

Write the letter in 120-180 words. Here is a brief paragraph plan to follow:

Paragraph 1: Greetings and thanks for the invitation

Paragraph 2: Apologies for being unable to accept, with reasons

Paragraph 3: Conclusion. Say when you hope to see your pen friend again

List the informal expressions:

- How are you?

- Thank you for writing back. I’m sorry I didn’t reply earlier. I don’t have much time to write you at the weekend because I’m very busy studying English now.

- Last weekend I went to the “Malvarosa” beach with my family. It was great! The weather was hot and we had a really fun time.

- You had a accident? How the hell did that happen?

- Is that okay?

- Bye for now and write back soon!

- Yours truly.

El examen constará de 50 ítems tipo test (preguntas de respuesta multiple, rellenar los huecos o abrir los parentesis, etc.). No se descontarán las respuestas erroneas.

Las preguntas cubren el contenido gramatical revisado en clase: Tiempos verbales, Condicionales, Verbos Modales y Adjetivos Comparativos y Superlativos.
